I made this many years ago for adjusting a pinball machine. It is quite simple and made from a welding rod using a vise and hacksaw.
Now this tool is finding a new use on my Polaroids. Starting from the center, I can flatten the spring until it is completely lower than the roller bracket. A bit cleaner than cutting it out.
You can probably make one out of a cheap screwdriver if you can't find the large welding rod.
